His ongoing series of New Poems details his day-to-day experiences of life, love and labour in the big city. James also runs the poetry night Adult Entertainment and the writing salon Adult Education. He hosts a monthly show on NTS Radio and has curated events for Boiler Room. True Romance, his latest EP, was released in May 2024 by LEVELS. His work has been featured by the BBC, the Guardian, Dior, Nike, Vogue, Dazed, i-D, Tate Modern and even the UK's Houses of Parliament. In his live performances James combines his poetry with alternative electronics and touches of house music, all while exuding a dubby dancehall spirit. https://www.jamesmassiah.com/ https://jamesmassiah.bandcamp.com/album/true-romance-ep-2 https://youtu.be/EAZ43jf_6dY?si=d5U3gH3PrSo22jKi Daisy Ray Belgian-born composer and performer Daisy Ray approaches sound with an intuitive, bricolage-like playfulness. In her sonic universe, a love for dancing and high energy intertwines with her affinity for storytelling, nursery rhymes and mystique concrète. Unbound by genre, Daisy’s music dances joyfully between her melancholic heart and a sun-wired spirit. Cut up, spat out, scorched, and screwed — her songs never come out straight. https://www.instagram.com/daisy.ray.4u/ https://daisyray.bandcamp.com/ Nonchalanté Partners share ballads whose twists and turns are known only to them. An emotional rollercoaster, from gloomy to hopeful, such is the creed of sisters Chloé and Amélie. Expect chirpy, cathartic and comforting tracks. https://www.instagram.com/tchikyboom https://www.instagram.com/chloecordiale https://soundcloud.com/nonchalantexpartners Travail2Porc is a music nerd inspired by different genres, ranging from rap, juke, electro punk to ambient and noise. What she mixes is also influenced by internet culture, memes, and video games. She loves connecting sounds with unexpected inspirations. https://www.instagram.com/redstarstill/ https://soundcloud.com/user-102038556 Promesses When DJs Samos and Härdee mix together, they call themselves Promesses. Which they enjoy so much that they organise their own parties under the moniker Professeur Promesses. In fact, they enjoy organising soooo much that they even set up Milieux Festival and catapulted Promesses into a border-smashing record label, with releases by Apulati Bien, chiasm and DJ Call Me (among others) and compilation gems with the likes of Clara!, salome and Kelman Duran. The common thread? Hybridity and eclecticism – or long live the absence of any common thread! Promesses' releases, their shows on Rinse FM and their live sets never care about "how it should be", they’re all about how it sounds. Rap, reggaeton, footwork, trance, jersey, baile funk, hyperpop, ambient ... anything goes, except putting boundaries on the expressive freedom of artists and audiences. To experience music is a thoroughly collective act in Promesses' world. So be welcome, it's fun here

FR 28.02 3 films by Hala Alabdallah 16:00, FREE 16:00 Farouk, assiégé comme moi (2016, 92 min) Through a portrait of Farouk Mardam-Bey, a Syrian publisher living and working in France since the 1970s, Hala Alabdalla's film tells the story of the struggle of men and women who, from France, have chosen to fight not with violence but with culture, to make the intelligence, humanism and freedom of the Syrian people triumph. 17:45 Hey, n’oublie pas le cumin (2008, 66 min) This unruly and poetic film shows a group of female silhouettes parade in front of the hospital bed of Jamil Hatmal, who is putting the finishing touches to his novel Narcissism in an ultimate attempt to outsmart death and madness. 19:00 Omar Amiralay - La Douleur, le Temps, le Silence (2021, 109 min) After forty years of political commitment and documentary filmmaking in a Syria wounded by the tyrannical regime, Omar Amiralay interrupts his work to look after his dying mother. Her acclaimed debut documentary is an intensely personal study of her native country Syria in which she reflects not only on the sense of loss which so many of her compatriots are coping with, but also on their enormous resilience. The documentary integrates interviews with three of her friends who have long ago left Syria for France with images of her husband Youssef Abdelke, a painter who is reunited with his mother after a long time.
